SERVICES / Pressure calculations
Pressure calculations to EN 13445 and ASME VIII.
Document how a tank or component responds to pressure and other loads. We carry out pressure calculations and finite element analysis using the relevant EN 13445 or ASME VIII basis.

DELIVERABLES
What you receive from Solutn.
- A calculation report with standards, method and assumptions.
- Documentation of loads, the model and relevant acceptance criteria.
- Assessment of the agreed components and load cases.
- Critical details and any proposals for design modifications.
How we get started.
Send us the material you already have. We review the basis and agree on scope, documentation and schedule.
View the relevant information and files
- Drawings or a model with wall thicknesses, stiffeners and joints.
- Materials, design pressure, temperatures and other loads.
- The selected standards basis and any existing calculations.
The standards edition, calculation method and documentation scope are defined for the specific task. Assessment of damaged equipment for continued service may require a separate Fitness-for-Service assessment.
TYPICAL TASKS
From pressure and geometry to structural assessment.
The pressure calculation is based on design pressure, temperature, materials and structural details. We connect the analysis and acceptance criteria to the selected standards basis and describe the load cases and components covered by the calculation.
Tanks and vessels
Pressure calculations for the structure, including relevant plates, stiffeners and joints.
EN 13445
Calculations to the agreed basis for unfired pressure vessels, including relevant design requirements in EN 13445-3.
ASME VIII component calculation
Detailed assessment of components such as a piping tee, with the division and method defined for the project.
Finite element analysis
Detailed stress and deformation analysis where required by the task.
Multiple load cases
Pressure, temperature and other mechanical loads included in the design basis.
Structural modifications
A calculation basis for changes in geometry, stiffening or use.
STANDARDS AND ASSESSMENT BASIS
A clear basis for the assessment.
The design basis depends on the equipment type and project requirements. Tank design calculations, component calculations and integrity assessments have different purposes.
| Standards and assessment basis | Application to the task |
|---|---|
| EN 13445 / EN 13445-3 | Design basis for unfired pressure vessels. The relevant edition and method are agreed. |
| ASME BPVC Section VIII | Component or vessel calculations using the relevant division and calculation method. |
| API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 | A separate basis for assessing existing equipment with known damage or degradation. |
A calculation describes the agreed technical scope. The project’s other design, manufacturing and inspection requirements are clarified within the overall process.
TECHNICAL ILLUSTRATIONS
Geometry and results in engineering.

The model behind the tank calculation
The illustration shows the tank plates and stiffeners as part of the calculation model. The result plot at the top of the page comes from the tank’s EN 13445 pressure calculation.

ASME VIII calculation for a piping tee
This image shows component calculations for a tee in a piping system. The division, loads and acceptance criteria are defined in the project’s calculation basis.
QUESTIONS
Before we get started.
Do you analyse both tanks and piping components?
Yes. EN 13445 tank calculations and ASME VIII component calculations can be included, each with its own agreed basis.
How do pressure calculations relate to Fitness-for-Service?
A design calculation assesses the structure against the selected design basis. Fitness-for-Service considers current damage or degradation when assessing existing equipment.
CONTACT
What needs to be calculated or designed?
Send a short description, a drawing or a photo. Tell us what you want to modify or assess and when you need the deliverable. We will clarify the technical basis and next steps.
You are also welcome to call if the scope is still taking shape.
