SERVICES / Pipe stress analysis

Pipe stress analysis and piping calculations.

Assess stresses, thermal movements and loads on supports and equipment. Solutn carries out piping calculations in ROHR2 and component analyses, including piping tees.

DELIVERABLES

What you receive from Solutn.

  • A calculation report describing the model and assumptions.
  • Results for the agreed stress checks and load cases.
  • An overview of movements and reactions at relevant points.
  • Loads for support, steel structure and component design.
  • Proposals for necessary adjustments to layout and supports.

How we get started.

Send us the material you already have. We review the basis and agree on scope, documentation and schedule.

View the relevant information and files
  • Isometrics, layouts and a 3D model where available.
  • Piping materials, dimensions, wall thicknesses and component data.
  • Design pressure, temperatures and relevant operating conditions.
  • Support locations, connections and allowable component loads.
  • The project’s calculation basis and the required result format.

We work with tools including ROHR2 and CAESAR II. The calculation tool and design basis are selected for the specific task and described in the deliverable.

TYPICAL TASKS

From layout to documented loads.

Piping geometry, temperatures and supports together determine how the installation moves and transfers loads. Solutn works with pipe stress analysis and piping so the results can support further design of pipes, supports and connections.

Stresses and load cases

Analysis of the agreed piping system for relevant combinations of pressure, temperature, self-weight and other loads.

Thermal movements

Assessment of expansion, movements and flexibility in relation to the layout and supports.

Support and anchor reactions

A calculation basis for guides, anchors and other supports.

Connection loads

Forces and moments at equipment connections for review against the relevant component requirements.

Design modifications

Comparison and assessment of changes to piping routes, supports or operating conditions.

Component calculations to ASME VIII

Finite element analysis and component calculations, including piping tees, to the agreed ASME VIII basis and connected to the piping system’s loads and interfaces.

TECHNICAL ILLUSTRATIONS

Geometry and results in engineering.

QUESTIONS

Before we get started.

Can you help while the layout is still changing?

Yes. The work can be divided into an initial assessment and subsequent verification of the agreed layout.

Can I send an isometric drawing instead of a 3D model?

Yes. We review the drawing and establish whether it provides enough information to define the calculation basis.

Can the results be used for support calculations?

Yes. Relevant reactions can be used in calculations for supports and other structural interfaces.

CONTACT

What needs to be calculated or designed?

Send a short description, a drawing or a photo. Tell us what you want to modify or assess and when you need the deliverable. We will clarify the technical basis and next steps.

You are also welcome to call if the scope is still taking shape.
